These are the most basic systems which rely on outside sounders scaring off an intruder or warning neighbours that there is a problem. This is by far the most common and cost effective type of system. Basically, this is a bells only system with a piece of equipment called a speech dialler fitted to it.

Modern systems offer superb high quality images, even in low light conditions, recorded directly to hard drives allowing you to review images over many months. Try to be aware of items that may prove useful to an intruder's attempt to access your property, for example, moveable wheelie bins. Also ensure that any trees planted close to the property are kept trimmed sufficiently so as not to provide a climbing aid. Strategic placement of thorny bushes or shrubs such as roses can help make life difficult for intruders without making your property look unwelcoming.
