Emergency Lighting is an essential safety system that is required to be provided by owners or occupants of commercial premises. The following are guidelines only but would normally reflect the basics of a well-designed system. Your major requirement is to activate the emergency lighting in either local or complete mains failure and a professionally designed, installed and maintained system should reduce the chance of an accident and ensure health and safety not compromised in the event of a power failure.

With the number of unwanted alarms reaching intolerable levels, Calderdale Royal Hospital installed technology from Notifier by Honeywell to solve the problem and create a state-of-the-art fire detection system. Calderdale Royal Hospital is a modern centre of excellence that first opened its doors to patients in April 2001, after becoming one of the country's first private finance initiatives (PFI). Operated by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, it was built at a cost of over 100m by the Catalyst Healthcare consortium and Bovis Lend Lease provided the design and construction services.

Keypads have the benefit of having no additional cost for fobs or card swipes. The pin number can be given to any number of staff, if a member leaves or the number becomes known then the code can be changed and your staff can be informed of the new code. The disadvantage of keypads is that the pin number can be passed on to non-eligible personnel or it can be copied by observers or contractors. Both fob reader and swipe card systems need a device to be presented to the reader to gain access. Fob readers require a fob, which can normally be fastened to your key ring or built onto a watch strap.
